Like Seoul in Korea, Manhattan in New York is considered a global symbol of success and a dream city for many. Because so many people want to live here, the overall housing prices are overwhelmingly higher than in other parts of the U.S.

As a result, there are big differences in real estate prices even within Manhattan itself, leading to a wide range of residents in terms of profession, income, ethnicity, and overall neighborhood vibe. It’s also interesting to see how seasonal fashion trends are interpreted differently based on the character of each neighborhood.

I plan to introduce the cultural and fashion individuality of various Manhattan neighborhoods to audiences in Korea. First up is the Upper East Side — often chosen as the “most desirable place to live.”

Did you know that the Upper East Side, Gossip Girl’s setting, is home to some seriously stylish people?

Upper East Side - A neighborhood where tradition meets sophistication

The Upper East Side has long been home to America’s wealthy elite and often appears as the backdrop in famous TV series like Gossip Girl and Sex & the City.

For this reason, tourists love to visit, dress like the characters, and have playful conversations like, “Do I look like Carrie Bradshaw?” or “It’s giving Blair Waldorf!” This style remains popular among the younger generation.

Residents of this area typically fall into the following categories:

✔️ Traditional Upper Class (Old Money)

✔️ Finance and Legal Professionals

✔️ Full-time Housewives and Socialites

✔️ Young Professionals (New Elite)

✔️ Affluent Elderly

✔️ International Wealthy & Diplomats
